Schalk Burger will take over the captaincy of Western Province from Anton van Zyl next week.
Van Zyl has captained the team throughout the Currie Cup while Burger was on national duty.
WP Coach Allister Coetzee says van Zyl has been outstanding but he has to make way for Burger.
“You know the leadership in the team has really been excellent up until now. I think Captain van Zyl has played a massive role in captaining the side to where it is in this point in time [but] also aware... when Schalk is coming back next week, Schalk is the senior captain.”
Meanwhile Coetzee is confident JD Moller will fill the boots of Wicus Blaauw, who’s been ruled out of the Currie Cup due to a hamstring tear.
He also has little doubt that Deon Fourie will be up to the task against the Blue Bulls at Loftus this weekend, with Tiaan Liebenberg struggling with an ankle injury.
